Changes to 2016 Split 2 Competing Teams

This week, we had a cancelled game between Fellowship of the Nerds and Lunatic Peace. This ultimately resulted in Lunatic Peace no longer being apart of the league. While we are saddened by the news that Lunatic Peace have decided no longer to compete with SKL, we are ecstatic to welcome White or Wong into split 2 who will be taking their place.

What does this mean for games already played against Lunatic Peace?

Watch your emails. We will be making arrangements for teams to play new games against White or Wong. Because Lunatic Peace only played 2 games, there will only be 2 games that need to be replayed. However, because we are entering Week 5, there will be 4 games to make up before the end of the split.

What about future games scheduled for Lunatic Peace?

All future games will be replaced with White or Wong, so scheduled games will proceed as planned. You can check the schedule to confirm when you are playing.

Will the makeup games be casted?

We will make our best effort to have the games casted, however we can not guarantee due to the conflict of schedule between all parties involved.

What happened to Lunatic Peace?

Lunatic Peace decided no longer to compete in SKL. No further comments will be made on the subject.

Why White or Wong?

In the event a team drops out of the League, or is kicked out, we select the next highest ranked team from Qualifiers. This team ended up being Boosted Animals, however Boosted Animals declined the invitation. White or Wong was next in line.

New Website Update

Hey Everybody! Welcome to the brand new SKL Website!

After a few days of downtime, and a little longer of a broken website, we are back up and running. I wanted to address a couple reasons why the website was offline and the steps that we took to address the issues that we were facing.

First off, we were having some issues with auto updates being processed, and then older things that hadn’t been updated needing to be updated right away. This caused a lot of things on the backend to break, and you probably noticed that things weren’t working, or appearing as they should have. This was the major reason to bring the website offline. I basically ended up rebuilding the website from the ground up to ensure that we had up to date systems, and a fully functioning website. I think we succeeded here and everything so far seems to be working pretty fantastic.

This comes on the heels of a recent server migration done a month ago. Combined, these updates should make for a pleasant website viewing experience.

Since I was rebuilding the website from the ground up, I took this as an opportunity to push ahead with a website redesign I had been working on. The website should look and feel cleaner, be easier to navigate and find information you are looking for.

There are a few things that will be updated in the coming week here, including old news posts, remaining pages, archived season stats, and more. So if you don’t see something, wait a few days, and check back with us again. You can always get in touch with us on Social Media to ask more questions as well.

Thanks for bearing with us this week while we took the time to address some issues with the site, and I hope the downtime was worth it.

See you on the rift!

League of Legends 2016 Fall Split Announcement

Hello, one and all! Now, I know you have all been patiently waiting for some news and details regarding this upcoming SKL Split, and we’ve been working on getting those to you. We’ve just had some very exciting things that we had to take care of first, in order to iron out the plans for the future of SKL.

Carrying forward, the SKL format will change slightly. This upcoming fall split will be very similar to the last one. However, SKL will be switching over to a circuit points system, very similar to that of the system the LCS uses for Worlds Qualifications. Where teams finish in the standings in the first split playoffs will grant them a certain amount of Circuit Points, which we will specify later in this article. First place getting the most, and decreasing from there. These circuit points will carry over to our second split, where you can again earn additional points from that split. We have a very special treat in store for our second split, but still wanted to give teams a good incentive to not take the first split too lightly. We’re also hoping that this system will see a greater instance of teams staying together for a longer period of time, as well as consistently returning to SKL.

As for the second split, the regular season will play out as normal, but who makes playoffs will be based off of three routes: regular season placement, circuit points, and last but not least, a gauntlet. The top two teams at the end of the regular season will auto qualify as the top two seeds going into the playoffs of the second split. The third seed will be determined by whomever has the highest amount of circuit points, excluding teams that have already qualified for playoffs. The fourth seed will qualify from winning a gauntlet style tournament.

If you’re not familiar with a gauntlet, here is how it will work. All the remaining teams with circuit points, who have not already qualified for playoffs, will be set up in a bracket. The team with the most points being the highest seed, and the team with the least points being the lowest seed. The two teams with the lowest amount of circuit points will play each other in a series. The winner of that will play the team with the next highest amount of circuit points. Then, the winner of that series will continue on to play the next highest team and so on, until there is only one team remaining.

Now that we’ve got that covered, we can get into some of the details that I’m sure will make this easier to understand. Here is how the points will be allotted for EACH split.

1st Place – 90 points
2nd place – 70 points
3rd place – 50 points
4th place – 30 points
5th place – 10 points
6th place – 10 points

And again, just to clarify, in the first split the points are awarded after playoffs. In the second split, they are awarded before playoffs, as they determine who will move on to the second split playoffs. These numbers are very similar to that of the LCS. In the second split, we are considering expanding the number of teams that can play in the regular season, but that will depend on number of teams registering, competitiveness, as well as just general interest in that idea. This will be decided by the SKL Admin team at a later date.

As far as the actual registration process goes, it will be the same as always, including the registration fee. It will still be $70 per team, since we seemed to receive a good response about that last split. We’re aiming for something that’s not too pricey, but not so insignificant that teams feel like they can just not show up. Payment details will be e-mailed to you after you register.

I hope this article clears up any mystery surrounding our future splits here at SKL. As for the “Special Treat”, news surrounding that will be announced a little later on. We just don’t want to jump the gun. Registration for our Fall 2016 Split opens up on August 1st and goes until August 14th. The Qualifying Tournament will begin on August 22nd and will go until September 15th, or potentially the 20th, depending on tiebreakers. The Regular Season will be starting on September 26th. If you have any questions concerning the new format, please don’t hesitate to ask. This is something new for us too, and we want to make it go as smooth as possible. Hold on to your butts folks, it’s about to get wild.

/Remake Before It’s Too Late!

Have you ever sat through an entire champion select phase, then waited through the loading screen only to find out that your jungler – who just a few minutes ago was bragging about his mad skills on Rengar – will not actually be joining you? Of course you have. It may have not been (or could have very well been) this exact scenario, but we have all experienced that one guy that decides to go AFK right when the game starts. Seriously, what was he thinking joining the queue in the first place if he is not even able to start the game? Now your team will try their best to win this game, and maybe even start to pull ahead in some cases, but overall this player has just wasted your – and everyone else’s – time. Wouldn’t it be nice if we were able to stop the game as soon as this issue is noticed by your team by simply typing “/Remake” to start a vote? Oh wait, Riot has just added this feature to the PBE.

Soon, grumbling about those miserable loading screen poopers, cooks, and dog walkers will be a thing of the past and we can finally start a game confident that we will be able to blame the inevitable loss on the lack of ganks instead of the lack of a jungler. In the first three minutes of the game, if someone has been AFK for at least 90 seconds, you may type “/Remake” into your chat bar and a magical voting box will pop up on your screen similar to that of the surrender vote box. Your team may then vote to remake the game and both teams will be sent to the end-game lobby so that you may start a new game with new players that you may force a rage-quit in your toxicity. All players in the previous game face no consequences except for the AFK, who suffers a loss in their match history, and in LP if it is ranked. This is a great new feature, so be sure to double-check if you have a full team before doing anything too rash in the first three minutes, because after first blood, you may no longer remake the game.

4v5 games do no happen too often, but we have all experienced them in one way or another and they feel awful when they do. The losing team feels worse than they really are – most of the time causing conflict within themselves — and the winning team either does not feel like they have won fairly, or they start trolling the other team in light of their conflict. Everyone loses (figuratively) in these situations so it is great that even though these games do not happen all the time, Riot is still looking to fix the problem for when the odd AFK does happen in the first three minutes. League of Legends has become a lot more aggressive towards AFKs and Leavers recently, so be sure that both you and your dog have pooped before entering your next queue.

SKL Playoffs Delayed Until 2PM

Hello everyone,

We apologize for the delay. The SKL Playoffs will be starting at 2PM rather than 12PM.

The reasoning for this is because there were some issues with one of the teams. The best possible outcome we could have, while still retaining competitive integrity, is to start at a later time.

Thank you for your patience,
