Registration for the Second Recreational League has Opened!

The first split of the SKL League of Legends Rec League officially concluded a couple weeks ago, with Anything Deemed Inappropriate coming out victorious over White or Wong. We would like to offer our sincerest congratulations to both teams. Now, onto the next split!

Registration for the next Rec League split will be opening on February 6th! With that being said, there are a few changes we are going to make for this upcoming split. First of all, and most prominently, we will be splitting the league into two divisions: Competitive and Relaxed. This decision was made in order to ensure that everyone can still join the Rec League, while also improving league parity.

Competitive Division

Competitive will be geared towards higher ranked players looking for a more competitive atmosphere, while still maintaining the relaxed tone of the Rec League. The Competitive division will feature playoffs and a grand final at the end of the regular season.  We will also place more of an emphasis on streaming these matches. However, unlike last Rec League split, games in this division will be scheduled by SKL Admins based on pre-provided availability of teams. This division will also feature a to be determined prize pool. Team registration fees for this division will be $10 per player.

Relaxed Division

Relaxed will be geared more towards players who are just looking to chill and have a good time playing games with friends. There will be no prize pool for this division, and they will not be guaranteed streamed games. However, they will be guaranteed fun. The scheduling of games for this division during the week is up to the two teams. If a scheduled time cannot be agreed between two teams for that week, a scheduled time will be chosen by the SKL Admin Team for early the following week. Team registration fees for this division will be $4 per player.

Free agents will be put into a general pool and available to sub for either division, to ensure maximum availability of subs. Free agent registration is $5.

For the most part, the rest of the protocols from last season will remain in place. Teams will be matched up with another team once per week to play a best of two series. After a scheduled game time has been agreed upon by two teams, or before the SKL-scheduled game time, a tournament code can be generated in Battlefy for the match. However, it is important to not generate the tournament code too far ahead of time, as the generated codes expire after twenty-four hours. Battlefy will track all of the stats for the matches, as well as reporting the outcome of the match, through proper use of the tournament code.

As always, if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us through our Facebook page or on our Discord channel. And remember, let’s keep it light, fun, and recreational out there. ?

Your closest friend,

Kevin “BigBooty” Bode

New Website Update

Hey Everybody! Welcome to the brand new SKL Website!

After a few days of downtime, and a little longer of a broken website, we are back up and running. I wanted to address a couple reasons why the website was offline and the steps that we took to address the issues that we were facing.

First off, we were having some issues with auto updates being processed, and then older things that hadn’t been updated needing to be updated right away. This caused a lot of things on the backend to break, and you probably noticed that things weren’t working, or appearing as they should have. This was the major reason to bring the website offline. I basically ended up rebuilding the website from the ground up to ensure that we had up to date systems, and a fully functioning website. I think we succeeded here and everything so far seems to be working pretty fantastic.

This comes on the heels of a recent server migration done a month ago. Combined, these updates should make for a pleasant website viewing experience.

Since I was rebuilding the website from the ground up, I took this as an opportunity to push ahead with a website redesign I had been working on. The website should look and feel cleaner, be easier to navigate and find information you are looking for.

There are a few things that will be updated in the coming week here, including old news posts, remaining pages, archived season stats, and more. So if you don’t see something, wait a few days, and check back with us again. You can always get in touch with us on Social Media to ask more questions as well.

Thanks for bearing with us this week while we took the time to address some issues with the site, and I hope the downtime was worth it.

See you on the rift!

SKL Mug

4-Pack

Of Brackets, and Mistakes

When we started SKL, we knew that we would have players and teams who had time constraints. As such, we stipulated among ourselves that we would be understanding of this to some extent. During the course of qualifiers, we became more and more lenient on changes to game times. After the fourth change to week two’s brackets, we realized that our lenient policy was affecting the competitive integrity of the league. This is the last thing we want to do. Our seeds and brackets were carefully thought out weeks in advance. By changing them around, we not only confused the players and the fans, but we also affected the competition.

To that end, all brackets have been reset to the original formula. This means that ANY changes that may have occurred have been reverted.

The flip side to this is that we still want to have room for leniency. We understand that since we didn’t have the schedule defined ahead of time, it is hard to commit to games. As such, we want to be able to reschedule games if needed. So, instead of moving around brackets, we have now rescheduled the games within those brackets. Going forward there will be no adjustment to brackets, round robins, or any other games.

That all being said, as of 14:00 SKT, August 27th, 2015, the brackets are now LIVE and FINAL. The only thing that has changed from the original formula has been some rescheduling of games. Please double check BRACKETS and select Week 2 for your complete schedule.

Thank you for your understanding.

Apologies,

Kadins

Farewell to Friends

We would like to announce the departure of two SKL Admins. Dylan “DXI Edge” Edgar and Brook “V Moppy” Wagner.

DXI Edge has been helping out with SKL since the beginning. His numerous contributions include securing major sponsors, helping with advertising, and assisting a great deal in the day-to-day behind the scenes workings of SKL. DXI Edge will continue to contribute by writing articles for our website, but unfortunately will have to stop with the administrative side of things for the sake of competitive integrity. He has left us in the hopes of qualifying for the regular season with his team, Indecision. We wish to thank DXI Edge for all of his help and we wish him the best of luck in the qualifying tournament.

V Moppy has also been helping out with SKL since the beginning, with his major contribution being designing all of the posters that you hopefully have been seeing all over Saskatchewan. He has left to focus more on work, as well as climbing that solo que ladder. SKL thanks V Moppy for all of his talents and efforts. They are greatly appreciated.

Once again, we would like to thank both of these gentleman for their hard work, talents, and contributions to SKLeague. We wish you both the best of luck in the future.

See you on the rift,

Zaramali 😉 (JK) and the SKL Team!
